Tips on Disconnecting-image

Social media proves boundless benefits to everyone that uses it, but it can be a prevalent time-waster in our society, and there may be times when it’s better to disconnect. In this week’s Canyon Park Apartments Blog, we’ll share with you some simple tips on how to step away from your technology and appreciate the things around your apartment in Puyallup, WA!   No Technology in the Bedroom How many times have you decided to go to bed and ended up on your phone for hours until you finally decide you have to get to sleep at 3 o’clock in the morning? Leaving technology out of your bedroom is a good way to ensure you actually sleep. Keeping your tech out of sight will keep it out of mind.   The common argument for keeping technology close by (especially your phone) is being in reach in case of emergency. This is valid, but if you are expecting emergency phone calls, you can keep your phone charging away from where you sleep, preferably in a place where you have to get up out of bed to retrieve it.   Pick up a Book For all the reading we do on our smartphones and computers, we tend to shy away from picking up a book and reading. Make a goal to pick a book and read it cover to cover. Pick up a fantasy novel, thriller, or a biography. When you do, leave your phone in another room, turn the TV off, and go to a quiet spot so you aren’t distracted. Let yourself be free of distraction to soak in the literary brilliance.   Leave Your Phone at Home For people who are especially attached to their devices, an option for disconnecting is actually leaving your phone at home. If you are headed out for a short period of time, or if you’re headed out with a friend and wish to focus on social interactions, leave your phone at home. Once you get over the initial withdrawal, you’ll find that without the distraction of your mobile device or the social crutch of ignoring everyone else for your screen, you can more fully enjoy the company of who you’re with.   Disconnecting can be difficult, but it’s also a positive thing to do. Do you have any tips on how to disconnect? Let our apartment community know what you do to disconnect from technology and connect with your friends and family by leaving a comment below! Dressing for the summer is essential for men and women, and since we covered how men can dress for summer in our previous post for the Canyon Park Apartments Blog, this week we’re sharing with you ways women can dress to stay cool during the summer here in Puyallup, WA.   Layering Layering is a great thing, but unfortunately, the summer heat isn’t kind to those who like to do so. Going light on the layers makes it easier for the breeze and air to flow through your clothing, keeping you cooler during the heat. Keeping it simple is the name of the game in the summer, and it’s good practice to find ways to simplifying while still looking stylish! If you do wish to layer, remember to buy fabrics that are lighter and more breathable.   Skirts and Dresses Flowy skirts and dresses are a lady’s best friend in the summer. Not only are skirts light, they don’t have pant legs that will restrict you and hold heat in! Try to find dresses and skirts that are a lighter fabric like linen, cotton, or chiffon. Try to stay away from the form-fitting dresses, as the contact with skin is more likely to cause you to sweat and retain heat. Instead, look for loose fitting dresses that still give you the shape you love. With an outfit that involves a dress, you’re not only going to be cool, but you’re going to look amazing as well!   Accessories Don’t underestimate the power of accessories! Sunglasses and a hat are the staple additions to a summer outfit, and they work wonders! Opt for a hat with a wide floppy brim for a look that is not only stylish, but functional as well! Hats keep the sun out of your eyes, and the right hat will keep your head cool, as it promotes airflow as well. Sunglasses, on the other hand, will make you look cool while protecting your eyes from the brightness of the sun that could burn your retinas.   Be the talk of the town by dressing to impress and using our tips to keep cool as well! Do you have any fashion tips that have worked for you in previous summers? Let our apartment community know in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Gone are the days of throwing on a parka and layering to keep warm, folded up and stored in your Puyallup, WA apartment. The longer days invite warmer weather and a change in what you wear. In this week’s Canyon Park Apartments Blog, we’ll share with you some tips on dressing for the summer!   Shorts Shorts are a staple for the summer. From swimsuits to sportswear, shorts are a great way to keep your legs airy and comfortable. Though not all types of shorts aren’t suited for a night out on the town, some shorts are. Hotter, clunkier shorts to avoid are the jean and cargo variety. Instead, opt for fitted (not too tight, not too loose) shorts that end right above the knee with a flat front. These type of shorts don’t shorten your legs visually or reveal too much. Neutral or solid colored shorts are a safe bet that are appropriate for most occasions. Shorts should never be an option for formal events, but are perfect for a casual gathering.   Cotton and Linen One of the biggest goals of dressing for the summer is to keep cool, so it’s important to understand the type of materials your clothing is made from because that can have an effect on your body temperature.   The two types of fabrics that you should look for while shopping for the summer are cotton and linen. Most of all summer clothing is made from cotton, because it is generally lightweight and one of the most breathable fabrics. Linen has been around for centuries and has been the choice for summer for equally as long. It’s lightweight and breathable, and it absorbs moisture. Linen wrinkles easily, so if you’re a person that enjoys clothing with little to no wrinkles, go with cotton instead.   Accessories Many men don’t necessarily opt for accessories like bracelets or necklaces, but there are accessories that can be beneficial for the everyday man. Some examples are hats and sunglasses. Such simple accessories can add to your look without looking too gaudy or over-the-top. Invest in a good pair of stylish sunglasses with UV ray protection to protect your eyes from the harsh sunlight. (Your eyes will thank you.)   A hat, whether it be a fedora or a regular ball cap, is a good option for the summer. They provide protection from the sun and keep your head cool (depending on the kind of hat you get).   Keep yourself cool by dressing for the season. Bike to Work-image

Did you know that May is National Bike Month? With the weather turning warmer, it’s the perfect time to break out the bicycle (or buy one) to get out and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful weather. In this week’s Canyon Park Apartments Blog, we share with you some tips for preparing yourself to bike to work in Puyallup, WA.   Learn to Manage your Time A large part of making a switch to biking to work, or any other place, is to manage your time. Bicycles are slower than cars. It’s natural to take a little longer for you to get places when you cycle, so plan wisely and account for time and distance when you choose to go places. If you’re biking to work, give yourself enough time to arrive and cool down, or if possible, take a shower.   Map Your Route Knowing where you’re going and being familiar with the route is important for efficiency. With so many resources like Google Maps, or cycling apps , it’s easy to pick the best, shortest, or most scenic route for your commute to work via cycling. It’s also a wise idea to ride the route on a weekend before you intend on making the switch to commuting, this way, you know what you’re getting into and you can make adjustments if necessary.   Know Your Limits Not everyone is capable of jumping on a bicycle and riding 25 miles with no problems. Biking is a cardiovascular exercise and does require some level of physical fitness. If you’re new to biking, or are just getting back into it, try to work your way up to completing your commute route. Instead of trying to commit to finishing it on the first try, take a couple weekends to ride the route and go as far as you can. As you work out those muscles, your strength will increase and you become more capable of finishing. Push your limits incrementally. You will find that you can accomplish a lot more than you were initially able to.   Do you have any tips for biking to work? Let us know in the comments below! Thanks for reading!
