Dress for the Summer (Men)

Gone are the days of throwing on a parka and layering to keep warm, folded up and stored in your Puyallup, WA apartment. The longer days invite warmer weather and a change in what you wear. In this week’s Canyon Park Apartments Blog, we’ll share with you some tips on dressing for the summer!

Shorts

Shorts are a staple for the summer. From swimsuits to sportswear, shorts are a great way to keep your legs airy and comfortable. Though not all types of shorts aren’t suited for a night out on the town, some shorts are. Hotter, clunkier shorts to avoid are the jean and cargo variety. Instead, opt for fitted (not too tight, not too loose) shorts that end right above the knee with a flat front. These type of shorts don’t shorten your legs visually or reveal too much. Neutral or solid colored shorts are a safe bet that are appropriate for most occasions. Shorts should never be an option for formal events, but are perfect for a casual gathering.

Cotton and Linen

One of the biggest goals of dressing for the summer is to keep cool, so it’s important to understand the type of materials your clothing is made from because that can have an effect on your body temperature.

The two types of fabrics that you should look for while shopping for the summer are cotton and linen. Most of all summer clothing is made from cotton, because it is generally lightweight and one of the most breathable fabrics. Linen has been around for centuries and has been the choice for summer for equally as long. It’s lightweight and breathable, and it absorbs moisture. Linen wrinkles easily, so if you’re a person that enjoys clothing with little to no wrinkles, go with cotton instead.

Accessories

Many men don’t necessarily opt for accessories like bracelets or necklaces, but there are accessories that can be beneficial for the everyday man. Some examples are hats and sunglasses. Such simple accessories can add to your look without looking too gaudy or over-the-top. Invest in a good pair of stylish sunglasses with UV ray protection to protect your eyes from the harsh sunlight. (Your eyes will thank you.)

A hat, whether it be a fedora or a regular ball cap, is a good option for the summer. They provide protection from the sun and keep your head cool (depending on the kind of hat you get).
