New Movies Coming Out This Month-image

October brings with it all kinds of great movies to see in theaters. On the Canyon Park Blog, we’re featuring some of these new movies for you to check out here in Puyallup, WA. Invite friends from our apartment community, buy your tickets online , and enjoy a movie this weekend!   The Mountain Between Us (October 6) Stranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow covered mountain. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing one another to endure and discovering strength they never knew possible.   The Foreigner (October 13) “The story of humble London businessman Quan (Chan), whose long-buried past erupts in a revenge-fueled vendetta when the only person left for him to love - his teenage daughter - is taken from him in a senseless act of politically-motivated terrorism. In his relentless search for the identity of the terrorists, Quan is forced into a cat- and-mouse conflict with a British government official (Brosnan), whose own past may hold clues to the identities of the elusive killers.”   Marshall (October 13) “Long before he sat on the United States Supreme Court or claimed victory in Brown v. Board of Education, Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) was a young rabble-rousing attorney for the NAACP. The new motion picture, ‘Marshall’, is the true story of his greatest challenge in those early days – a fight he fought alongside attorney Sam Friedman (Josh Gad), a young lawyer with no experience in criminal law: the case of black chauffeur Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing (Kate Hudson), of sexual assault and attempted murder.”   The Snowman (October 20) “When an elite crime squad's lead detective investigates the disappearance of a victim on the first snow of winter, he fears an elusive serial killer may be active again. With the help of a brilliant recruit, the cop must connect decades-old cold cases to the brutal new one if he hopes to outwit this unthinkable evil before the next snowfall.”   Same Kind of Different As Me (October 20) “International art dealer Ron Hall must befriend a dangerous homeless man in order to save his struggling marriage to his wife, a woman whose dreams will lead all three of them on the journey of their lives.”   We hope you enjoy a movie this weekend. Celebrating Confucius Day-image

This month on the Canyon Park Apartments Blog we want to celebrate Confucius Day, which is September 29th. We’ll share history about Confucius, info about the books he’s written, and quotes from his writing. Settle into your apartment here in Puyallup, WA and enjoy learning about Confucius.   History of Confucius Not much is known about Confucius’s early life, but it’s estimated that he was born in 551 BC in China. He was also known as Kong Qui or K’ung Fu-tzu throughout his life. Some think that he was born into a royal family, while others believe he was born into poverty.   Confucius was born during a time of “moral decline.” He felt an obligation to bring good principles back to existence. He believed in self-discipline as well as loving others and having compassion. He also had a philosophy of education that was based on “Six Arts: archery, calligraphy, computation, music, chariot-driving and ritual. To Confucius, the main objective of being an educator was to teach people to live with integrity. Through his teachings, he strove to resurrect the traditional values of benevolence, propriety and ritual in Chinese society,” according to a biography about Confucius .   Writings by Confucius This philosopher wrote inspiring material that is still read today. The basis of Confucianism are the 5 Classics and the 4 Books, which make up his beliefs and philosophies. Academics.Hamilton.edu explains the works of Confucius : “The Five Classics consists of the Book of Odes, Book of Documents, Book of Changes, Book of Rites, and the Spring and Autumn Annals. The Four Books are comprised of the Doctrine of the Mean, the Great Learning, Mencius, and the Analects.”   Quotes by Confucius Get inspired by some of the thought-provoking words of Confucius himself.   “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”   “The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”   “What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others.”   “If your plan is for one year plant rice. If your plan is for ten years plant trees. If your plan is for one hundred years educate children. ”   “The superior man thinks always of virtue; the common man thinks of comfort.”   “It is easy to hate and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve; and bad things are very easy to get.”   “The Man who says he can, and the man who says he can not.. Are both correct”   What interests you about Confucius? Are there any quotes you want to adopt into your life? Let us know in the comments. Thanks for reading. Have a great month here in Puyallup, WA.

Throw a Fall Party at Your Canyon Park Apartment-image

September 22nd is the Autumn Equinox, a time when “the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above Earth’s Equator – from north to south,” according to TimeAndDate . And we call this time when seasons change an equinox because, according to the site, “On the equinox, night and day are nearly exactly the same length – 12 hours – all over the world. This is the reason it’s called an ‘equinox,’ derived from Latin, meaning ‘equal night.’”   Here on the Canyon Park Apartments Blog we want to share with you some party ideas to help you celebrate the Autumn Equinox and the beginning of this beautiful season. They pop up in our inboxes, and standard procedure is to delete on sight. But what happens when you reply? Follow along as writer and comedian James Veitch narrates a hilarious, weeks-long exchange with a spammer who offered to cut him in on a hot deal.”   A highly scientific taxonomy of haters by Negin Farsad “TED Fellow Negin Farsad weaves comedy and social commentary to cleverly undercut stereotypes of her culture. In this uproarious talk/stand-up hybrid, Farsad speaks on her documentary, The Muslims Are Coming!, narrates her fight with the MTA in New York and offers a detailed breakdown of the different types of haters she’s encountered in her work. ‘Comedy is one of our best weapons,’ she says. ‘We’ve tried a lot of approaches to social justice, like war and competitive ice dancing -- but a lot of things are still kind of awful. We hope you get a chance to mix up one of these recipes this month here in Puyallup, WA.   Lotion Bar Recipes Lotions bars are a great and convenient alternative to regular lotion. They are great for travel and won’t get your bag messy if there’s a spill. A combination of coconut oil, beeswax, and either cocoa butter or shea butter is the main base for these bars. For a Chocolate Chai Tea Lotion Bar, you’ll need your base (cocoa butter), cinnamon, and nutmeg. It’s a warm and yummy smell that you’re sure to love. For a Peppermint Bar use the base (using either cocoa butter, shea butter, or mango butter), peppermint essential oil, and matcha (optional). Some people don’t like the waxy feeling of beeswax in their lotion so if that’s you you’ll like these Rose Lotion Bars. You’ll use shea butter, cocoa butter, almond meal, and rose water.   Beginner Soap This beginner soap is great for a first timer. For this recipe you’ll use olive oil, coconut oil, lavender essential oil (or another scent), lye, and water. Soaps fall on a scale of more conditioning or more cleansing. The Things We’ll Make says, “This soap falls on the conditioning end of the spectrum.” And what is lye? Lye is “a strongly alkaline solution, especially of potassium hydroxide, used for washing or cleansing.” Chances are you have some of these ingredients on hand. If not, go to your local store and find these ingredients to make your very own homemade soap. They also work perfect as gifts.   Lavender Honey Homemade Lip Balm You can find all kinds of chapstick recipes out there. Here’s just one of many that is great for keeping those lips nice and smooth. This recipe calls for coconut oil, shea butter, raw honey, sweet almond oil, beeswax, lavender oil, and frankincense oil.
