History of Confucius
Not much is known about Confucius’s early life, but it’s estimated that he was born in 551 BC in China. He was also known as Kong Qui or K’ung Fu-tzu throughout his life. Some think that he was born into a royal family, while others believe he was born into poverty.
Confucius was born during a time of “moral decline.” He felt an obligation to bring good principles back to existence. He believed in self-discipline as well as loving others and having compassion. He also had a philosophy of education that was based on “Six Arts: archery, calligraphy, computation, music, chariot-driving and ritual. To Confucius, the main objective of being an educator was to teach people to live with integrity. Through his teachings, he strove to resurrect the traditional values of benevolence, propriety and ritual in Chinese society,” according to a biography about Confucius.
