Homemade Body Products

More and more people like the idea of making their own homemade body products in order to avoid added chemicals in store-bought products. This week, the Canyon Park Blog brings you some homemade recipes to try out. Whatever yours reasons are for making it, we know you’ll enjoy it and feel proud for making your own products. We hope you get a chance to mix up one of these recipes this month here in Puyallup, WA.

Lotion Bar Recipes

Lotions bars are a great and convenient alternative to regular lotion. They are great for travel and won’t get your bag messy if there’s a spill. A combination of coconut oil, beeswax, and either cocoa butter or shea butter is the main base for these bars. For a Chocolate Chai Tea Lotion Bar, you’ll need your base (cocoa butter), cinnamon, and nutmeg. It’s a warm and yummy smell that you’re sure to love. For a Peppermint Bar use the base (using either cocoa butter, shea butter, or mango butter), peppermint essential oil, and matcha (optional). Some people don’t like the waxy feeling of beeswax in their lotion so if that’s you you’ll like these Rose Lotion Bars. You’ll use shea butter, cocoa butter, almond meal, and rose water.

Beginner Soap

This beginner soap is great for a first timer. For this recipe you’ll use olive oil, coconut oil, lavender essential oil (or another scent), lye, and water. Soaps fall on a scale of more conditioning or more cleansing. The Things We’ll Make says, “This soap falls on the conditioning end of the spectrum.” And what is lye? Lye is “a strongly alkaline solution, especially of potassium hydroxide, used for washing or cleansing.” Chances are you have some of these ingredients on hand. If not, go to your local store and find these ingredients to make your very own homemade soap. They also work perfect as gifts.

Lavender Honey Homemade Lip Balm

You can find all kinds of chapstick recipes out there. Here’s just one of many that is great for keeping those lips nice and smooth. This recipe calls for coconut oil, shea butter, raw honey, sweet almond oil, beeswax, lavender oil, and frankincense oil. This recipe makes twelve tubes. Melt these ingredients together and pour them into the tubes for the perfect gift for family and friends.
