To celebrate, we’ve gathered together some great restaurants around Canyon Park Apartments here in Puyallup, WA that serve some tasty vegetarian meals, as well as some Yelp reviews to tell you about them. Check one out soon!   Indian Kitchen   “Pleasantly surprised. As a vegetarian finding good eats at a mall is pretty rare. The food looked and smelled nice, so we gave it a try. The food for the price was great. It tasted fresh, nicely spiced and flavorful. Winner, winner, vegetarian dinner.” — Michael G.   Quickie Too   “This is my new favorite restaurant!!  The vegan food is beyond amazing, I'm surrounded by photos of Bob Marley, and my favorite reggae music is playing on the radio.  I couldn't ask for more!  I've only tried the Jamaican burger and wrap, and they were fantastic. Spicy, savory, and sweet. I love this place!” — Lauren G.   Ichiban Teriyaki   “Best Teriyaki in town! Prices are great and servings are huge! Staff is always friendly to me and they are very accommodating. They fill difficult orders without hesitation.” — Lindsay S.   Pho Hoa   “I love it here! The selection of Vietnamese food is great! It's not just Pho that's served here. I love their banh mi and pho here and the price was very cheap. I feel like this is South Tacoma's little gem here.” — Lancelot O.   Shakabrah Java   “I come here every single week and have been for a few months with my girlfriend and I look forward to it every week. Not only because I get to go out and eat with my girlfriend, but because the food is absolutely delicious. The french toast has made its way into the top 5 things I love (food wise). The service is extremely fast during the week and I feel very comfortable there. I recommend this to every single person when I talk about going out to eat. My girlfriend orders the Veggie Omelet as she is a vegetarian and she loves it! This restaurant is heaven for breakfast. The Shakah Potatoes are also absolutely incredible. I've ordered the exact same thing at the pancake house a minute down the street and I literally could not eat it because it was disgusting. Skip the Pancake House and go straight to Shakabrah. It will be the best decision you've ever made.” — Matthew D.

September is nearing its end and October is just around the corner. That means the time is here to enjoy an annual event celebrated all around the world: Oktoberfest! And as luck would have it, residents of our Canyon Park apartments here in Puyallup are just around the corner from Oktoberfest Northwest, one of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in the western United States. It runs October 7th through the 9th at the Washington Events Center. Here’s some information on the event from its website :   Oktoberfest Northwest hosts Western Washington's largest Munich-style Festhalle Biergarten and is the Northwest's exclusive home of Hammerschlagen®. For the past 11 years, Oktoberfest NW has brought authentic food, bier and entertainment to its guests. Prost with the best at Oktoberfest Northwest!   Featured Events:   The Stein Dash: 5Ks are fun. Beer is fun. 5Ks & Beer are typically not a natural pairing….typically. However, on Sunday October 9th, the best of both worlds collide for the second annual STEIN DASH – and this year will again be EXCITING, for sure!   Hammerschlagen®: In 2005, we introduced Hammerschlagen® to the Pacific Northwest. It quickly became one of the most addicting bar games in the region and now you could call it “a PNW past time.” The goal is to drive a nail into a cross section of wood faster than your opponents. Easy you say? Well then, we will see you at Oktoberfest Northwest 2016 to see if you actually have what it takes.   Dining: Coming to Oktoberfest Northwest means plenty of dancing, drinking… and eating!   Festhalle Main Stage: Entertainment from noon till almost midnight! Here at Oktoberfest Northwest, the party doesn't stop! Starting at noon each day and late into the night, you can find amazing music and entertainment to get you into the Oktoberfest spirit. You can get plucky with the traditional Chicken Dance or dance the night away to our outstanding line up of German-style musicians with a little bit of polka-rock flair!   Weiner Dog Races: Daschunds of all shapes and sizes (well okay, all sizes... but probably just the one shape) will compete in various races and competitions.   Family Fest Zone & Kinderfest: Kids’ activities include a root bier garden, a scavenger hunt, free pumpkin decorating, free face painting, an authentic May pole dance, arts and crafts projects with the Tacoma German Language School, Family Day Sunday, Manuela Horn’s Kinderfest Show, and games like kids Hammerschlagen, corn hole toss, and more!

Not many people know that September is National Honey Month! Once we found out, we thought it would be a great idea to gather up some recipes that feature honey in some sort of prominent role. So we went to the website of the National Honey Board and picked out a few tasty-looking foods to give a try. If you prepare any of these, let us know how you liked them!   10 K Cereal Bars   These honey granola bars make for a great easy breakfast or for a tasty snack whenever you need one. You can mix them up with different sorts of granola or other ingredients like chopped dried fruit.   Pumpkin Honey Bread   Make these now before the real pumpkin craze of autumn sets in and you get tired of the flavor! Maybe you can get especially creative and come up with a savory sandwich that works well with the sweet bread.   Grilled Portobello Mushroom Salad with Greens, Honey Vinaigrette and Roquefort   Take a honey/soy sauce vinaigrette and drizzle it over a salad featuring as much bacon and as many portobello mushrooms as you want, and you’ve got a salad that will work well for a side or a meal on its own.   Anticuchos of White Seabass with Aji Chile Honey Marinade And Semilla Salsa   Are you familiar with anticuchos? They’re basically shish kebabs. These tasty versions feature as much seabass as you want them to; this recipe is designed as an appetizer, but could easily be reworked to serve as a main dish.   Grilled Honey-Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Onions   Finally, we have a hearty main dish to complement any other recipes you try from our list. September is here, schools are back in session… what better time of year to celebrate literacy and the books we love? That’s probably why International Literacy Day is held on September 8th each year. To help you celebrate this week, we’ve gathered together some interesting book recommendations and reviews from Goodreads.com!   Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami   “It was my second time trying to read Murakami. The first book I tried to read was "Wind Up Bird Chronicle", which I could never finish. "Kafka on the Shore" though was extremely captivating, I couldn't put it down. Surreal would probably be a good way to describe it. The quote about the storm close to the beginning of the book was what got me interested in the book in the first place. It was fascinating who all of the characters turned out to be interconnected by the end of the book.” — Anya Vlasova   Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg   “I went into reading this book with only the vaguest idea of what it was about. Magical baked goods? Sounded like my kind of story. Whimsical, unusual, and compelling? Bring it on. And Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet definitely delivered all the above and more. What caught me off guard was the level of emotion I felt as I read. This book rubbed me raw in beautiful ways. I've read all of Holmberg's other books and despite already being at a high level, she leveled up with this one. I CRIED, people. I actually cried. And this is NOT a normal thing for me.   Not only is the story beautifully crafted and the world-building exquisite, the emotional authenticity was so powerful that while I immediately wanted to read the book again once I finished, I needed to recuperate for a few days before I could tackle it again. THAT is how you earn five stars. Wow.” — Kimberly VanderHorst   Chasing Fireflies by Taylor Dean   “I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. Being a bit of an introvert myself, I felt I could relate to Savannah. The fact that the story was in present tense pulled me from the story at times, but I quickly became enveloped by the story once again. This was a difficult book to put down. I loved the characters and story arc. I frequently wondered how things would turn out, and I was anxious to find out about things that were mentioned but not yet revealed. I liked Julian. And Dakota and Hunter were great as well. And I loved Pearl’s involvement in the story. In the end it all fit together quite perfectly. This is definitely a book I want to read again.” — Karen
