Take Care — of Yourself!-image

Last week on the Canyon Park Blog, we brought you a few of the reasons why it’s so necessary to practice self-care regularly. As promised, we’re here this week with some simple things you can do to start cultivating a lifestyle full of intentional self-care! Go For a Walk  When was the last time you went on a walk just because? With our busy lives, it’s easy to constantly be thinking about the next destination we need to get to or the next stop we need to make, and sometimes we forget how relaxing it is to take a relaxed and leisurely stroll to the end of the street and back. Not only is it good for your physical body to get moving, but it’s a great way to help the mind and soul unwind, as well.  Do a Ten-Minute Cleanup  If you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, a simple ten-minute cleanup will surely help you to feel a little bit better. It’s easier to feel serene and clear-headed in a space that is free of clutter and chaos, and so a quick yet intentional effort to make your apartment more orderly is a great way to remind yourself that you value clarity and peace of mind.  Get Offline for an Hour  In a world where we are so dependent on our electronic devices, it can be really overwhelming to be connected to a constant stream of news, messages, TV shows, and other forms of media. While you obviously aren’t online 24/7, making a mindful decision to unplug for an hour can be a great way to practice self-care. This may seem hard at first, but as you practice it, you might find yourself craving some intentional time away from technology.  Enjoy a Favorite Meal  Sometimes when you feel like you need to pay a little bit extra attention to yourself, it can be a great opportunity to enjoy one of your favorites. Get takeout from one of your favorite restaurants that serve this dish or cook it at home. Whichever way you choose to enjoy it, take some time to remember why you love it and to send yourself little reminders that it’s a good thing to treat yourself every once in a while. Where is your favorite place to go walking in Puyallup or your favorite Washington restaurant? Let the rest of our apartment community know in the comments

The Importance of Self-Care-image

Canyon Park Blog is here to help you get set for the summer by addressing the topic of stress. It’s something we live with every day, but were you aware of how it can affect your life? This month, we encourage you to think about self-care as a gift to yourself! Keep reading to understand a little bit better about why self-care is the best thing you could do for your well-being this month.  Burnout Prevention  One of the least enjoyable feelings is reaching the point where something you’re doing is stretching you so thin that you are convinced the only way out is to give up. Spending time taking care of yourself and your personal needs throughout stress-inducing times can help you steer clear of this unenjoyable phenomenon entirely. Burning out doesn’t help anyone, you can’t serve water out of an empty pitcher, so be sure you refill yours, metaphorically speaking.   Focus A hefty dose of concentration and focus can only go so far before it runs out; at a certain point, it’s time to take a break. Plus, spending break time doing something you enjoy is a form of self-care! Relaxing and thinking good thoughts about yourself won’t just feel good during your brief recess, but it will also help you to recharge your batteries and focus more intently afterward. Stress Reduction In healthy doses, stress is vital for progress and growth. However, there comes a point when too much stress is bound to drag you down. By becoming aware of your personal needs and attending to them, even when every day feels just like the previous one, you can reduce unnecessary stress in your life and foster a better environment for happiness and improvement. Thanks for reading our post today. Tune in next week for a few simple ways you can practice self-care right here in your Puyallup, WA apartment.

Father’s Day-image

Welcome back to Canyon Park apartments blog! It’s June and that means Father’s Day will soon be here. Are you ready? Today we are featuring tips for how to honor your father (or father figure) this month. Plus we have some great gift ideas too.  Sentimental   A gift that harkens back to your childhood or even your father’s younger years can be a hit. Was there a particular hobby you shared? Perhaps choose something that reminds you (and him) of that time spent together. Did you share a love of collecting baseball cards with your Dad, get one to add to his collection. Did you listen to vinyl records together? Get him a record player and some records from the past. If you’re going to go with a mug, instead of “World’s Greatest Dad” have one made featuring a favorite photo of the two of you.  Practical  While getting an appliance or tool is probably not the best gift idea for women in your life, for the fathers (or other men) in your life, it can be a highly appreciated gesture. Before you get it though, do some research. Check into the brand of tools he likes, find out what he already has and what he might need. Some sleuthing may be in order! If tools are completely out of your realm of experience, get the advice of a trusted friend about what to get.  Gift of Time  Spending time together may be the best gift you could give to your Dad. While we may not be able to spend time together physically, send a letter with your gift or in a card expressing appreciation for all your father has done for you and what he means to you. Be specific, recount memories and what they taught you. If writing isn’t your thing, make a phone call or do a Facetime, Zoom, or Google Chat, and spend some time connecting with your father. He’s sure to be pleased.  Whether the father figure in your life lives close by in Puyallup, WA, or not, it’s a great gesture to spend a little time making or buying something special for him. Happy Father’s Day from your Canyon Park apartment community!

If so, we’ve got some ideas to help you stay busy and focused if you’re spending extra time indoors this month.   Finish a Craft or Project  Now is a great time to finish that craft or project that has been stuffed in a closet or in the back of your mind. Another option is to take a look online and find an opportunity to do a service project and make a difference for good.  Do a Puzzle  If you’re looking for something to do on any given night, a 1000 piece puzzle is the perfect use of time. Not only is it time-consuming, but it also provides you with a sense of accomplishment at the end. A thousand pieces are no joke! So pull out a puzzle, or if you don’t have one, order one online, or you can even special order a puzzle with a picture of your choosing! Play a Game  Of course, we had to include the game, Solitaire, in this list of activities. Check out all of the variations of solitaire you can play! Most computers come with a solitaire suite, you can download an app for your mobile devices, or you can play solitaire the old-fashioned way with a physical deck of cards .  Clean Your Apartment  Now is a good time to do a deep clean of your apartment. Involve everyone in a cleaning and organizing project. Planning is the key. Taking a few minutes before you begin to plan what you need to accomplish, and approximately how long it will take, will save you time in the long run.
