Wall Decor-image

Previously, we posted a blog all about purchasing furniture and the smartest ways to go about doing so. Today we’re focusing on the walls of your Canyon Park home. Making your home your own can really be a lot of fun. Your walls are literally a blank canvas to express yourself with, especially through different items like photos and artwork. Switching out items as you develop your personal style will give your apartment a unique style and portray your sense of self. You want to choose things that you love because you’re certainly going to see your walls more than anyone else. Get some more ideas and tips in this month’s Canyon Park Blog.   Ditch the typical tassel garland and go for something with a more “boho” vibe. We love this moon phase garland from Kestrel Shop. Purchase it or simply gain inspiration from it and make something similar. As the site describes the item, “Each pendant has a lovely patina that’s reminiscent of the real moon’s natural shadows. Makes a beautiful statement suspended above a headboard or mantel.” It comes in silver or brass, so you can choose the one best fitted for your home and your tastes.   Another idea for wall decor is to create your own hat wall. The things you wear aren’t just clothes; they can be used as decor in some spaces! Whether you’re all about the fedora or you rock a ball cap, these can be used as decor. And as a bonus, you already own them, so it’s basically a free DIY project! We love this hat wall idea from Design Love Fest.   Besides photos and artwork, there are a ton of fun items to hang on the wall. A woven wall hanging is a simplistic way to display a beautiful organic design. This Rossa Woven Wall Hanging from Urban Outfitters is one of our favorites. It’s made from mixed materials and would look pretty near a window or above your couch.

Tips for Applying for a New Apartment-image

Welcome back to Canyon Park’s blog. Moving to a new apartment can be stressful, and it can bring up a lot of new situations, even if you’re moving within Puyallup, WA. In order to make your move as easy as possible, we’ve got some advice in today’s post.   Verify Your Credit It’s important to know in detail your current financial situation before you start filling out an application. Getting an up-to-date copy of your credit report is a good place to begin the process. Once you receive the report, review it to verify that the information is accurate. If it is not, take steps to make corrections before you fill out an application. This is an easy way to avoid disappointment based on a credit score.   Prepare Documents Having all of the documentation you will need close at hand before you begin is a good idea. It will help you fill out the application more quickly in one sitting. Usually, you will need your driver’s license, social security cards, proof of employment, and references. Some applications require a copy of these documents to be attached. Scanning and saving them as a PDF file prior to starting the application can expedite the process when you are actually filling in the application.   Read Through the Application Before you begin filling out an application, read through it to get a general idea of what will be required and what information and documentation you will need to have on hand. This will help you avoid surprises and better prepare your answers.   Double-Check Your Responses Once you’ve completed the paperwork, but before you submit your application, double-check it to make sure it is complete and accurate. It is annoying to realize after you hit the “send” button that you made a mistake. Be sure to check for typos, too. First impressions still count, even if it’s only an application.

Furniture Shopping 101-image

Welcome back to Canyon Park’s blog. Today’s post is all about choosing the right furniture for your apartment. After you’ve graduated from a futon or that couch you adopted from a friend’s basement, investing in furniture can seem a little daunting! You want to pick a piece you love, something that fits your aesthetic, and something that will last through the years. Trendy pieces might catch your eye, but they could go out of style in a few seasons. Something cheaper might seem more tempting but picking a high-quality piece could mean shelling out a little extra cash.   Try this guide below when choosing a large piece of furniture!   — Do you love it? This one is really important. Maybe you don’t see that green velvet couch staying on trend for the next fifteen years, but if it’s something that sparks joy in you, that thing definitely needs to find a home in your living room. A piece like a couch or a headboard will be seen literally every day, and it’s no fun to regret that decision every time you see it! If it makes you happy and it’s worth the price you pay, go for it.   — Does it fit? Before you hand over the money, check dimensions! If you’re buying an untraditional piece, you want to make sure it will fit in your space. Try measuring areas before heading out to shop. Keep dimensions and lengths saved in your phone for whenever you might stumble upon that must-have item.   — Can you care for it? Something with lots of embroidery or decoration might get torn apart by animals. If you have any pets, be sure you choose items which can be cleaned if a disaster should ever occur. If there’s a chance you’ll be moving, can you take the piece with you or will you need to put in into storage? Taking really great care of your furniture will help it to last forever.   Ask yourself these questions before you invest in a great piece of furniture for your Canyon Park home and you’ll find something that works great for you.

Hearty Breakfast Toast-image

Welcome back to Canyon Park’s blog! Today we’re sharing a delicious recipe to get your morning started on the right foot. Your usual cup of coffee or bowl of cereal might not be cutting it anymore. You’ll want something quick but still nutritious. Breakfast on the go is something you’re probably used to if you start school or work early in the morning, so you’ll want something that can be easily transported.   For a little bit of a rustic take on the typical breakfast dish, we turn to Martha Stewart. This recipe for charred tomatoes on toast is a comforting dish that even packs some veggies into the first meal of the day. What could be better? Find the recipe below:   Ingredients 4 slices rustic bread, toasted 1 clove garlic, peeled 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing 4 large eggs Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper 4 small tomatoes, such as cocktail or Campari, halved   Directions Rub toasted bread with garlic and brush with oil. Heat oil in a large, heavy skillet (preferably cast-iron) over medium heat. Crack eggs into skillet and cook, undisturbed, until whites are set, 2 to 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and transfer to a plate.   Increase heat to medium-high. Brush cut sides of tomatoes with oil. Sear, cut sides down and undisturbed, until charred, 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer 2 tomato halves to each piece of toast with a spatula and lightly mash. Season with salt and pepper and top with fried eggs.   These ingredients are probably items you’ve got on hand anyway, but this is a delicious twist for a tasty toast topping. We hope you enjoy this fun breakfast idea. Be sure to check back often for more great posts just like this one. Thanks for reading Canyon Park’s blog!

Spring Cleaning-image

In today’s Canyon Park blog we’re sharing some tips for spring cleaning. April is here which means it’s time for all that deep cleaning we dread the rest of the year. About Spring Cleaning, Martha Stewart says, “Your spring cleaning may never become effortless, but you can make the project more manageable — and even enjoyable.” Below, we’ve listed a few places in your apartment you might want to tackle this spring!   Cabinets are a great place to start. They collect dust and food splatters, so wipe down doors and handles. Then take things off of shelves and wipe those down, as well. Use a soft rag with some warm water. If you need something a little more heavy duty, try something like disinfectant wipes.   Windows, of course, should be cleaned as well. If you have access, clean the outside of them, too. Clean off mirrored surfaces, including tables or frames. While you’ve got the glass cleaner handy, go ahead and wipe off your car windows, too!   The refrigerator is a pretty big task, but you can certainly do it with some organization. Take all food out of fridge and put it on your kitchen table. Get a warm rag and wipe off shelves and drawers. Be sure to do the outside and handles. Go through food and throw out all items that are expired or won’t be eaten. Old leftovers should be thrown out and containers thrown in the dishwasher.   Countertops are a spot you’re probably cleaning often anyway. Spring cleaning is a great time to move appliances and clean underneath and behind items. Wipe down appliances as well, empty crumbs from toaster, clean off blender bases and standing mixers, and soon your apartment will be sparkling.   We hope these tips help get your home back into tip-top shape. Check back next time for more great posts like this one.
