Just a year after securing their first Super Bowl victory in the 2013 season, they returned the next year only to lose to the New England Patriots on what looked like a shoe-in play for the Seattle Seahawks on the one-yard line.
But after all the criticism, national and local media has been watching the losers of that gamewaiting to see what theyll do after that heartbreaking loss. And nows as good a time as any to watch along. In our first post, we gave a brief overview of this team. In this post, well be focusing on what to look out for this season, and the resources you can use to follow along and understand every second.
Local Resources
If you still need to get up to speed on the rules of football, you can read the NFLs guide to the rules and players here. And theres a recent episode of WNYCs Radiolab that dedicated to everything football thats sure to get you tuned into the sport. Wed also recommend following local beat reporters like Bob Condotta for the Seattle Times or Danny Kelly over at SB Nations Field Gulls for game-by-game insight. Now that you have those resources, what do you want to look for this season?
Understanding the Context
Though we picked up some promising trades and drafts this yearfrom a lightning fast receiver named Tyler Lockett and a former basketball player tight end named Jimmy Grahamwe also have one of our better defensive players holding out in an attempt to get a better contract. Without some of the intimidating tone-setters like Kam Chancellor earlier on, we struggled as an offense and defense thats still getting to know each other again in two road gamesboth of which resulted in a loss.
Though early statistics tilt against us making the playoffs with that start, home games make all the difference. And as our opponents get a little easier, players are bound to step up and find their place. Chris Matthews used to work at a shoe store before he was one of the most pivotal receivers in our last Super Bowl appearance.
Communication will get better at home. And the games to see if were really up to par for another championship season? Thatll come down to games against the Arizona Cardinals, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
