As much as we love our Puyallup, WA apartments, sometimes we need a little change of scenery to recharge and reboot. Sometimes we reject the idea of a vacation just because of the cost and time it takes, but Im here to show you some options that you may not have previously considered. We are always missing the most amazing things, just because they are right in front of us! We forget that a change of scenery can be found in a short drive from home. Let me introduce you to one of your new homes-away-from-home. You probably realize that Port Angeles is close-by, but did you know that it is only 2 hours and 21 minutes away? Perhaps youve never even been there, despite its close proximity, or maybe because of its closeness to home. If you gave it a weekend of your time, you might find a gorgeous little getaway at A Hidden Haven . This quaint little Bed & Breakfast is nestled in a densely wooded area just outside of Port Angeles. It is a secluded group of cottages and cabins on 20 acres of property. The property isnt just wooded and inaccessible to anyone but a hiker, its chock full of well-tended lawns, gardens, waterfalls, ponds, and wildlife! You can take a leisurely walk along the Nature Trail, and feed Spot the turtle, or get a nuzzle from Prancer, the reindeer. This beautiful location is covered in 100-year-old trees, and boasts serenity and privacy. Some cottages and cabins house private hot tubs, and fireplaces to chase away the cool ocean air. Dont forget the amazing breakfast served each morning by the Innkeepers. In Port Angeles, you have a smorgasbord of little-known attractions to check out. Take your pick from visiting the Olympic National Park, for a morning spent in the great outdoors, or touring some local wineries. You have three to choose from for your little weekend excursion, and they all offer tastings, tours, or parties. You could hit the Black Diamond Winery , Harbinger Winery , Olympic Cellars Winery , or all three! Stop in at the Feiro Marine Life Center and visit with the giant octopus. Take a quick drive into the Olympic Game Farm and wave back at the famous waving bears! If youre more into the outdoors style of activity then you could rent a Kayak and head out to sea, or hike the waterfront trail. Head into downtown Port Angeles, and check out the variety of local shops, and pick up some mementos. In the evenings you could take a scenic water cruise through the harbor, or have a nice meal at a local restaurant like Downriggers Waterfront Restaurant. Once youve had your fill of sightseeing, head back to your haven and hop into your private hot tub for some real downtime. Just think! You can get a battery reset, a mini-vacation and some new experiences in after less than 3 hours of driving, without taking any vacation time from work! If youre thinking what Im thinking, then pack your bags! Lock up your Parkland WA apartment, because youre headed for the open road!

I dont know about you, but I tend to have a lot of magazines lying around. I know, it is a dying form of media, but there is just something I enjoy about opening the mail and finding the latest edition of Model Railroader Magazine, or Seattle Natural Awakenings . The problem, however, is that I inevitably end up amassing a tower of old publications in the corner of my South Hill, WA apartment. There they sit, until the stack gets so tall that it actually becomes a safety hazard. At which point, they are thrown in the recycling bin. But recently, I stumbled upon an article on apartmenttherapy.com - my favorite source for design inspiration that explained a way to repurpose these magazines into a surprisingly sturdy, load-bearing structure. Do you remember that science class project from high school, where you make a bridge out of paper and tape, before testing how much weight it could hold? When used properly, paper can actually be extremely sturdy . With this in mind, I decided to try it out for myself. The process is simple; you dont need anything except magazines. All you do is remove the subscription cards, open the magazine cover, and fold the right edge of the first ten pages in toward the magazines binding. Repeat the process until you get to the end of the magazine, and finish it by folding the front cover over the first group of folded pages. Depending on the thickness of the magazine you chose, you will need two or three of these to make a column. You can then use these columns as end tables, display pieces, or anything you can think of. I, myself, am in the process of making a coffee table out of old GQ magazines for my own Parkland, WA apartment. The only problem has been finding a suitable piece of material to use for the top. Believe it or not; large, transparent pieces of acrylic plastic arent as easy to find as one might hope (unless you want to pay an arm and a leg).

Have you ever bought a piece of furniture only to find out that it wouldnt fit through the doorway of you Parkland, WA, apartment? Maybe you got home with a piece of artwork only to realize that theres something off about the way it is hung but you cant figure out what? There are a number of rules and tricks designers use to keep things in proportion and knowing a few of them can stop you from making a potentially expensive mistake. Hanging things on the wall is often something that is done without much though. You might have a friend help to make sure it is level and centered on the wall but that is usually where people leave off. You can greatly improve the presentation of hanging wall art by centering it at eye level which is between 56-60. Similarly, with pieces made up of two or more sections, use the center point between them as your reference point. You would be amazed at how much more put together a room looks when these simple things are taken into consideration. You can make your windows, and the entire room by extension, feel larger by playing around with measurements a bit. When hanging drapes, mount the rods 4-6 above the window frame. Curtains and drapes should be cut long enough that they slightly graze the floor. Some designers recommend letting curtains puddle, or hang an extra 2-3 so they sort of pile up at the bottom. I advise against puddling because the drapes get dirty more quickly and if youve ever had to pay to have drapes cleaned you know exactly why I try to avoid it (its super expensive). You can also make the windows look larger by overlapping the outer edges of the window by several inches. This works especially well when combined with a higher-than-necessary curtain rod height to give the appearance of massive windows. Rugs can be insanely expensive which makes measuring for them even more important than other pieces of furniture. When using a rug to cover the floor try to leave about 12 of bare floor between the rug and the wall. This frames the rug and ensures that everything looks like it fits together. Smaller rooms can get away with less space but the general rule is the same; leave a good bit of space to highlight the difference between the rug and the floor. When putting a rug beneath a table try to get one that extends at least 2 from the edge of the table on all sides. This ensures that a chairs legs can all be on the rug when someone is sitting in it. Keep these tips in mind the next time you set out to redecorate your home and you will be one step ahead. So go out and measure that rug you have had your eye on. Sure, its beautiful but it doesnt matter how well the colors work together if its too big to fit in your South Hill, WA, apartment. Keep this in mind because these tips could potentially help prevent you from making what a very costly mistake.
